FIVE PICTURE FRIDAY!!

Sandy Point, Washington

Taken January 26, 2024

On the NW tip of Washington State, Sandy Point is a small peninsula that juts into Lummi Bay in the Puget Sound, with views of the Cascades and the San Juan Islands. A Rorschach test of social change and gentrification, it’s the kind of place where middle class retirees like firefighters and teachers could once afford a place to dock their boat and enjoy the fishing. But it’s getting discovered, and the tension between working class residences, gradual decay, Airbnb rentals, and million dollar 2nd homes plays out under the watchful eyes of seagulls, cormorants, and bald eagles.

About “Five Picture Friday”

Every other Friday, I produce a short photo-essay on an interesting location. I try to capture the essence of the place, distilled down into a few images. It’s a fun way to practice my photography, and I hope you enjoy a little armchair travel!
