FIVE PICTURE FRIDAY! - Chicago Bridges

Connectivity and architecture in the Windy City.

Taken April 15, 2025

Downtown Chicago is an unmistakeable and unique American scene - towering buildings set against Lake Michigan and the looping Chicago river. Famously, the river’s flow was reversed to create a transportation loop that now puts a boundary on the urban center. Criss-crossing the water are dozens of amazing bridges - triumphs of early 20th century optimism, design, engineering, and art. They connect and guide all manner of transportation modes - trains, pedestrians, bicycles, boats and cars - throughout the city, landmarks themselves in a city of architectural marvel.

About “Five Picture Friday”

Every other Friday, I produce a short photo-essay on an interesting location. I try to capture the essence of the place, distilled down into a few images. It’s a fun way to practice my photography, and I hope you enjoy a little armchair travel!

Want a print?

For those desperate for some wall decor or simply infatuated with one of my photos, prints are now available for a nominal fee - basically ‘at cost’. Send me an email with your request, and I’ll make it happen.
