FIVE PICTURE FRIDAY! - Ghosts of Big Bend

Broken dreams and lonely desert highways in Southwest Texas.

Taken February, 2025

Traversing Big Bend country is a vibe unto itself. Long, desolate roads snaking through the scrub and cactus, leading you into ever amazing landscapes. A mix of Mexican and Texan culture permeates the historical tapestry, populated by legends of banditos, cowboys, rangers, country music singers, artists, outlaws, and refugees. Everywhere you turn, you encounter ruins and walls, decaying structures that recall a once hopeful enterprise facing off against the harsh Chihuahuan desert…now fading memories of bygone struggles and lives long forgotten.

About “Five Picture Friday”

Every other Friday, I produce a short photo-essay on an interesting location. I try to capture the essence of the place, distilled down into a few images. It’s a fun way to practice my photography, and I hope you enjoy a little armchair travel!

Want a print?

For those desperate for some wall decor or simply infatuated with one of my photos, prints are now available for a nominal fee - basically ‘at cost’. Send me an email with your request, and I’ll make it happen.
