FIVE PICTURE FRIDAY! - Jordaan
Canals, bicycles, and residential splendor in central Amsterdam.
Taken October 11, 2026
The Jordaan district in central Amsterdam is classic Europe. Walkable streets intersected by canals, historic architecture, quaint shops, museums, and amazing restaurants. Originally home of the working class, Jordaan has gentrified over the centuries to become a highly desirable place to live. The Anne Frank museum and the Westerkerk anchor the district just to the east, orienting visitors and locals alike. Today, tourists, bicycles, and people of all stripes intermix on the brick streets, creating one of the most unique and lovely neighborhoods in the world.

About “Five Picture Friday”
Every other Friday, I produce a short photo-essay on an interesting location. I try to capture the essence of the place, distilled down into a few images. It’s a fun way to practice my photography, and I hope you enjoy a little armchair travel!
Want a print?
For those desperate for some wall decor or simply infatuated with one of my photos, prints are now available for a nominal fee - basically ‘at cost’. Send me an email with your request, and I’ll make it happen.
