FIVE PICTURE FRIDAY! - Red Mountain
Prairie and geology in northern Colorado.
Taken July 19, 2025
Up against the Colorado/Wyoming border, the Red Mountain Open Space offers a mix of trails and vistas that surpass expectation. Horses, hikers, mountain bikers, and trail runners take advantage of this unique prairie playground, where antelope dart among the scrubby brush and the grasslands seem to flow forever. Anchoring it all are unique deposits of compressed and contorted sandstones, limestones, and other colorful rocks, giving the space its name and defining its character.

About “Five Picture Friday”
Every other Friday, I produce a short photo-essay on an interesting location. I try to capture the essence of the place, distilled down into a few images. It’s a fun way to practice my photography, and I hope you enjoy a little armchair travel!
Want a print?
For those desperate for some wall decor or simply infatuated with one of my photos, prints are now available for a nominal fee - basically ‘at cost’. Send me an email with your request, and I’ll make it happen.
